Senior Associate Consultant – Serhat Abdurazak
Serhat has over 22 years' experience in organisational development and fundraising. His experience spans many sectors of the not-for-profit world including universities, private schools, medical research facilities and arts and community organisations.
In 1990 Serhat joined the newly created Development Office at Mount Scopus College in Melbourne just as their new Foundation was launched. By 1996 the annual programs were raising in excess of $400k each year.
As Director of Development at Monash University from 1999, Serhat established the University's Development and Alumni Office. He devised the "hub and spokes" model for faculty based foundations, transferring skills and mentoring new staff as well as providing strategic counsel on 6 major-gift campaigns. Within three years, philanthropic income to Monash University had increased from $7.8m to $15.4m per annum.
As Senior Consultant at Philanthropy Squared from 2004-06, Serhat managed projects for the Peter McCallum Cancer Centre, Monash University Faculty of Arts, Kidney Health Australia and Ruyton Girls Grammar School. He was also involved in the firm's Australia Council commission to conduct fundraising reviews and develop strategic plans for the country's premier performing arts companies as part of which he led projects with The State Theatre Company of South Australia, West Australian Opera, Australian Brandenburg Orchestra and the Malthouse Theatre in Melbourne.
In 2007 Serhat took on the role of Director of Development for Charles Darwin University. The challenge for this unique University in the Northern Territory was to build on early successes in establishing its Foundation. Having re-positioned the Foundation and re-aligned its board and focus, over $5.5m has been added to the initial philanthropic base of $650,000 and the number of donors to the university has doubled.
He recently re-joined Philanthropy Squared as Associate Consultant, and continues to work with CDU on a part-time basis.
